About Revolut
What Revolut Is
Revolut is a mobile money account rather than a card scheme or a bank branch network. It is used to hold a balance, exchange currency, send money and pay by card, and Revolut states that the main way it provides its services is through the Revolut mobile app. Revolut states on its own home page that it has more than eighty million customers worldwide and thirteen million in the United Kingdom.
Who Operates It and Who Regulates It
More than one company sits behind the name, and Revolut's own personal terms say which. The terms are an agreement with Revolut Ltd, a United Kingdom company with company number 08804411, which states that it is authorised to issue electronic money by the Financial Conduct Authority under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 with firm reference number 900562. The same terms name Revolut Bank UK Ltd as authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority under Financial Services Register number 981170, and state that investment services are provided by Revolut Trading Ltd, company number 11567840, authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority under firm reference number 933846.
The 16-17 Account Cannot Be Used at Gambling Merchants
Revolut's personal terms state that a holder must normally be eighteen or over to open an account, and that a sixteen or seventeen year old may be eligible for an account with restrictions set out in a schedule. One of the listed restrictions is that the holder cannot use the Revolut card to make purchases at gambling establishments. Revolut states that it applies the restriction by the merchant's registered business type, the merchant category code, rather than by the actual details of what is being bought with the card. Revolut also states that on turning eighteen a holder progresses to a normal account without those restrictions.
What This Page Does Not Claim
No Revolut page states that Revolut accepts gambling merchants on an adult account, and none states that it refuses them. Whether a given casino offers Revolut at its cashier is set by that operator and its payment providers, not by Revolut's published terms, and the absence of a published rule is not a permission. No deposit fee, withdrawal fee, limit or processing time is given either: Revolut's fee pages are scoped by country and by plan, so there is no single published figure to quote, and none is estimated here.
